Information is the currency of the middle manager in the highly competitive environment of many organizations. Hoarding this information can be dangerous though.
It is imperative to have an attitude of sharing and communicating information with peers, competitors, subordinates, and superiors as well as outsiders like suppliers and other vendors. The purpose of this sharing is to continue to add perspective to the information that will help identify opportunity or contribute to a solution. Great ideas are everywhere. As change leaders, find ways to inform and involve as many people from as many perspectives as possible. Look for insight from non-traditional sources. Many times this can be accomplished by going to the source. So often we ask each other for opinions and forget to ask front-line workers who really have the answers, if only we ask the questions.
