The Human Aspects of Change

Change Quotes

Change Quotes are popular, traditional quotes interpreted by Jim Canterucci from a change leadership perspective.

Cicero

Cicero, 'Brutus'

"Nothing quite new is perfect."

It can be argued that everything is perfect. It might not be obvious at the moment but even though imperfections cause problems they frequently lead to improvements beyond the original intention. So, in the grand scheme of things it all is perfect. Unfortunately we don't always have the luxury of thinking philosophically in the heat of the battle.

When one is resistant to a change to the status quo it is easy to amplify the normal imperfections of something new in order to justify the resistance position. As an individual we should ask the question - How does the imperfection serve us? This is a tough question to answer but it allows us to focus on the other extreme, the silver lining if you will, and at least bring us a sense of balance.

As a change leader it is important to highlight the imperfections and the opportunities they represent in order to counter the, "see I knew it wouldn't work" attitude. So many times, if unchecked, the imperfections can be blown out of proportion and overshadow the benefits of the change itself.
