Should Everyone Agree?
Conflict and doubt must be in the open for a really successful change initiative. I am frequently in a position of soliciting the worries, concerns, and doubts of those affected by the change. When one executive asked how I wanted to be introduced to the group, my response was that they should be as open and honest with their concerns as possible. He was shocked and actually said, "Why would you want to do that?" Until the concerns get out in the open we can't move forward. Period. Change leaders have to toughen up their skin and get in there to find out the bad news. In fact it's not as bad as we might think.
