Practical Communication
Improved communication and teamwork is a consistent goal among our clients and most companies. Many communication improvement initiatives fail because the communication is just not practical and applicable to the job environment. Here is one example that works. The first step in achieving a high performance work force is to hire the right people. Set up interview teams (6-7 people) made up of the candidates' future direct co-workers, contacts in other departments, supervisors, and subordinates. The goal of the interview team is to make a unanimous recommendation for the go/no go decision on a candidate. To do this the team must communicate, sometimes at an intense level, about something that is critical to the future of their organization. Added bonus - the successful candidates have built in mentors that won't let them fail.
