All change initiatives operate on assumptions. But remember our rule – No Surprises! It’s important to test all assumptions. The Stakeholder Analysis process in our change project is critical. What are each stakeholder’s assumptions about the change? Unchecked, untested assumptions become excuses. “I assumed everyone knew it wasn’t possible to get this portion done in two weeks.” “Why didn’t they realize we would need to ask for volunteers?” It’s necessary to create action plans that test all assumptions. As a change leader, train your ears to hear an assumption and question the assumption before it starts to be treated as a decision.
